There are effectively 4 means of transporting vehicles that are available to you:

  • Driven (or trade plated) - This is when a professional driver (normally a retired person) arrives at the collection point at the required time, and drives your vehicle to its destination. This is the cheapest option for moving a car, but it does add mileage, wear and tear, and of course your vehicle is at risk of an accident - although no more than if you were driving it yourself, and your vehicle is fully insured.
  • Single (open) transport - This is where your vehicle is placed on the back of a truck or trailer with no other vehicles and is uncovered. This is a flexible option - more expensive than having it driven, but your vehicle is safer and will incur no additional mileage or wear and tear (other than exposure to the weather and the small possibility of a stone chip). Your vehicle is fully insured.
  • Multi-car (open) transport - This is where your vehicle is delivered on a truck that carries from 2-12 vehicles at a time. This can often be cheaper, but is not very flexible if you're only moving one vehicle. We would not normally advise this option unless you are moving multiple vehicles or we can offer you a really low price. Your vehicle is safer and will incur no additional mileage or wear and tear (other than exposure to the weather and the small possibility of a stone chip), and your vehicle is fully insured.
  • Covered transport - Generally only required for classic or high value cars, this is a more expensive option that ensures your vehicle arrives in pristine condition.
